This homemade fruit jam is made with fresh ingredients and can last longer with the help of potassium sorbate, a food-grade preservative that prevents mold and spoilage while keeping the jam fresh for weeks.
📝Ingredients:
2 cups Fresh strawberries (or any fruit of choice, chopped)
½ cup Sugar or honey
1 tbsp Lemon juice (for acidity and freshness)
½ tsp Potassium sorbate (dissolved in 2 tbsp warm water)
1 tbsp Chia seeds or pectin (for thickening, optional)
👨🍳Instructions:
Prepare the Fruit:
Wash and chop the fruit into small pieces.
Cook the Jam:
In a saucepan over medium heat, add the fruit and sugar/honey.
Stir occasionally and cook for 15-20 minutes, until the fruit breaks down.
Add Thickener & Lemon Juice:
Stir in lemon juice and chia seeds/pectin if using.
Continue to simmer until the jam reaches a thick consistency.
Incorporate Potassium Sorbate:
Remove from heat and let it cool for 5 minutes.
Stir in the potassium sorbate solution and mix well.
Store the Jam:
Pour into sterilized glass jars and let it cool before sealing.
Store in the refrigerator for up to 3 weeks, or longer if kept in a cool, dry place.
Enjoy!
Spread on toast, pancakes, or use as a topping for yogurt and desserts! 🥞🍞
